Year 4 is investigating light this term.  We will discover what makes this all important form of energy unique, what it's properties are and also how many different types of light there are in our universe.  We will have lots of opportunities to investigate how light travels, how mirrors and lenses change how light behaves, and how light helps us to see.

Electromagnetic spectrum

We discovered that the light we see -visible light - is only one small part of a huge spectrum of energy waves that surround us all the time - the Electromagnetic Spectrum. Watch the videos below to find out more ………...

Combining Colours

Now that we have discovered that while or visible light is made up of seven different colours - use this great interactive from ABC Splash to investigate different types of light sources as well as what happens when we combine different colours of light.

HOW DO ANIMALS SEE?

HOW DO WE SEE?

We know instinctively that we use our eyes to see but exactly what goes on inside the 'windows to our soul'? Click on the image to the left to use a great interactive to find out.
Many animals have very different sight to humans. Some can even detect ultraviolet and infra-red light. Click on the photograph on the right to read an interesting interactive article.

Optical Illusions

Do you see what I see? Optical illusions are designed to make us questions what we see.  They trick us into perceiving something differently than it actually exists, so what we see does not correspond to physical reality. The word illusion comes from the Latin verb illudere meaning, "to mock." In addition, some illusions show us one thing in a picture, while someone else sees something entirely different in the same picture. Click on the image on the right to go to a website with some very cool mind bending illusions.
